Inga Smulkstys brings to AFJ a wealth of experience in government and the nonprofit sector. She directs all AFJ departments in setting specific organizational goals as well as monitoring and evaluating AFJ’s programs and objectives.

Before joining AFJ, she served as a senior advisor to the Board Chair and CEO of the Farm Credit Administration (FCA).   The FCA regulates a network of four banks and 83 institutions with total system assets of more than $250 billion.

Prior to her service at FCA, Inga served as Interim Action Fund Director and Voter Engagement Director for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPFA), an AFJ member organization. At PPFA, she directed collaboration among political staff at the PPFA national office and its many affiliates to implement local, state and national campaign strategies. She also planned and implemented independent expenditure campaigns for federal candidates.

Inga also served as National Political Director for Clean Water Action, where her work included developing and implementing strategies for a nationwide voter mobilization effort centered on environmental issues and overseeing organizational endorsement of state and federal candidates.

Her previous government experience includes serving as Deputy Under Secretary, Rural Development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and as Chief of Staff to Indiana Congresswoman Jill Long Thompson.

Inga holds a B.A from the University of Chicago and a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
