Director of Bolder Advocacy
Alliance for Justice is a national association of over 100 organizations, representing a broad array of groups committed to progressive values and the creation of an equitable, just, and free society. AFJ works to ensure that the federal judiciary advances core constitutional values, preserves human rights and unfettered access to the courts, and adheres to the even-handed administration of justice for all Americans. It is the leading expert on the legal framework for nonprofit advocacy efforts, providing definitive information, resources, and technical assistance that encourages organizations and their funding partners to fully exercise their right to be active participants in the democratic process.
The Alliance seeks a Director, Bolder Advocacy, to lead its nationally renowned advocacy program, which provides training, direct assistance, publications, and online resources to foundations and the nonprofit sector on matters related to lobbying, election activity, and other forms of advocacy. The director is a member of the Alliance’s senior staff team and leads a committed staff of attorneys and professionals implementing a comprehensive program created not just to provide technical information about federal and state laws and regulations, but to encourage robust advocacy efforts within the nonprofit community. The director also monitors laws and policies affecting nonprofit advocacy at the federal and state levels, and develops strategies and coordinates efforts to protect the advocacy rights of nonprofits.
In addition to a deep knowledge of the legal framework governing 501(c)(3), (c)(4), and other nonprofit organizations, and experience in nonprofit advocacy, grassroots mobilization or electoral politics, the successful candidate will possess excellent communications skills, demonstrated commitment to social justice advocacy, experience managing large-scale programs and an ability to gracefully direct challenging and diverse tasks. This position reports to the Executive Vice President.
This is an exciting opportunity to take the Alliance’s content-rich, well regarded training and advocacy work to the next level and increase its reach and its visibility.
