July 9, 2009, Washington, DC—Today, Alliance for Justice endorses the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.  In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Alliance for Justice outlines its support for Judge Sotomayor “who is a highly accomplished and qualified nominee who has proven herself to be fair, reasonable, and committed to upholding the rule of law and core constitutional values.”

“Sonia Sotomayor’s story is the American story of hard work, perseverance and talent. These values, which have taken Judge Sotomayor from the South Bronx to the top of the legal profession, will make her a superb Supreme Court justice,” said Nan Aron, president of Alliance for Justice.  “She brings not only intelligence, but much-needed experience and a rich perspective now lacking on the Court,” Aron continued.

The letter, which is based on four reports prepared by Alliance for Justice, notes that an “examination of Judge Sotomayor’s record demonstrates her consistency and restraint as a jurist.” The letter further notes that “Judge Sotomayor has a record of academic and professional excellence, and [Alliance for Justice] commend[s] President Obama for choosing a brilliant and fair-minded jurist to serve on our nation’s highest court.”

Alliance for Justice enthusiastically endorses this historic nomination, and urges the Senate to move swiftly to confirm Judge Sotomayor to be the next associate justice of the Supreme Court,” concluded Aron.
