So much for an independent judiciary free from the influence of partisan politics. Arguably the most Republican of the circuit courts, the Eighth Circuit is comprised of seven judges appointed by George W. Bush, one by George H.W. Bush, one by Reagan, and only two by Clinton. In a devastating blow to women's health and First Amendment rights, the extremely conservative court vacated a preliminary injunction that had been issued to prevent South Dakota's 2005 "informed consent" law from going into effect.
