Protecting Patient Safety

Americans trust that the hospitals that treat us and the medications that we are given will help us, not harm us. Yet all too often, individuals are injured by negligent care, defective medical devices, or dangerous drugs. When that happens, the victims must be able to go to court to seek redress for their injuries and to deter such carelessness and wrongdoing in the future. Unfortunately, every day additional efforts are made to prevent individuals from seeking justice in court.
The Alliance for Justice is actively involved in the fight to protect everyday Americans’ access to the courts:
- by opposing H.R. 5, a bill limiting patients’ rights that the House of Representatives is currently considering,
- and by supporting S. 2995, a bill recently introduced in the Senate that would reverse the unjust effects of the Supreme Court’s 2011 decision PLIVA v. Mensing.
