 Summary:

This resource identifies the importance of process-oriented evaluation in organizing to supplement impact evaluations, given the long-term nature of the organizing process.

 Detailed Description:

This brief interview with the executive director of a foundation that provides extensive support to community organizing groups gives some insights into the importance of evaluation of community organizing.  Of particular note is Beckwith's recognition that community organizing is a long-term process and that evaluation processes need to take this long-term perspective into account.  He urges the use of short-term process-oriented outcomes as well as more "concrete" impact evaluation.

Beckwith also identifies the evaluation successes of the Needmor Fund and its grantees, allowing insight into the types of measurements that at least one funder considers important.

 Core Organizing Components Emphasized:

The Development of Constituent Leadership and Power
Organizational Capacity and Management
Ongoing Reflection and Innovation
