 Summary:

This resource is a course assignment that guides students through a series of evaluative questions for assessing the effectiveness of an organizing campaign on multiple levels.

 Detailed Description:

The resource is a course assignment designed to help students analyze organizing campaigns.  In guiding the students as to how to report on their assessment, the tool provides a detailed list of evaluative questions that may be of value to potential organizing evaluators.

In addition to basic questions about the success of the organizing effort in achieving its goals, the guide asks follow-up questions that provide insight into the process by which organizers constructed their campaign, chose targets, and developed tactics based on the political climate surrounding the campaign, including the use of media strategy in the organizing effort.

By focusing very directly on the mechanics and development of an organizing campaign, this evaluation guide provides potential evaluators insight into more detailed questions beyond simple victory or loss of a campaign.  The attention to the choice of tactics, role of the organizers, and the influence of outside actors (e.g. opponents to the campaign, elected officials), helps to add layers to an evaluative view of organizing efforts.

 Core Organizing Components Emphasized:

The Development of Power
The Development of Constituent Leadership and Power
Participation and Membership
Organizing “Wins”
