WASHINGTON, D.C., November 4, 2013: Forty years after the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, women’s reproductive rights are under unprecedented assault. But all over the country, Americans are organizing to fight back.
Alliance for Justice tells the human stories behind the policy battle in a new 15-minute documentary Roe at Risk: Fighting for Reproductive Justice, which officially debuted online today at www.roeatrisk.org. The video is narrated by Emmy-nominated actress and activist Amy Brenneman.
“Clearly, we can’t rely solely on the courts to do the job for us. All Americans worried about the threats to reproductive justice need to fight back – and Roe at Risk shows how it can be done.”
AFJ went to Texas to document the efforts to roll back that law, sparked by the inspiring efforts of State Sen. Wendy Davis and thousands of Texans. AFJ also went to Mississippi, where the state’s only abortion clinic is battling to stay open.
In addition to documenting the problem Roe At Risk explains how all Americans can get involved in ensuring reproductive justice. Resources at the Roe at Risk website include an interactive map tracking litigation against repressive legislation across the country and information about how organizations can host their own screenings.
Roe at Risk is the latest in AFJ’s annual series of award-winning documentaries that have highlighted major legal issues since 1996.
