Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron Condemns Unprecedented Republican Tactics of Obstruction

Washington, D.C., September 30, 2010—The following is a statement from Nan Aron, President of Alliance for Justice, regarding the failure of the United States Senate to confirm any judicial nominees before the election recess:

“The Senate’s failure to move forward without confirming any judicial appointments before the election recess is extraordinarily disappointing and reflects an astonishing lack of urgency about the well-documented judicial emergencies in our courts. Almost all of the current pending nominees will eventually be confirmed by overwhelming votes, so efforts to further delay their confirmation can only be construed as Senators placing crass political calculations over their constitutional responsibilities. This destructive pattern must end and our judicial system must be accorded the respect it deserves and the American people expect.”
