WASHINGTON, D.C., October 12, 2012: The Alliance for Justice has received the highest possible rating from America’s largest evaluator of charities.

Charity Navigator has given AFJ a four-star rating, a level of excellence achieved by only about 25 percent of the nation’s charities.

“Alliance for Justice outperforms most other charities in America,” wrote Ken Berger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charity Navigator, in a letter announcing the rating. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Alliance for Justice from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

“We are proud and honored to be recognized as among the most accountable, fiscally responsible charities in America,” said AFJ President Nan Aron.  “What the Michelin Guide is for discerning diners, Charity Navigator is for discerning donors.”

Charity Navigator uses more than 20 different criteria to evaluate the transparency, accountability and fiscal health of a charity.  These criteria include the percentage of funds spent on an organization’s programs, and a series of policies to ensure accountability and avoid conflicts of interest.

“Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally-responsible way,” wrote Berger, the Charity Navigator CEO.

Alliance for Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. AFJ’s evaluation is available on the Charity Navigator site here.
