2010 Summer Semester Undergraduate and Graduate Student Internships

Alliance for Justice is a national association of almost 100 organizations dedicated to advancing justice and democracy. For 30 years we have been leaders in the fight for a more equitable society on behalf of a broad constituency of environmental, consumer, civil and women’s rights, children’s, senior citizens’ and other groups. Alliance for Justice is premised on the belief that all Americans have the right to secure justice in the courts and to have our voices heard when government makes decisions that affect our lives.

Alliance for Justice (AFJ) offers summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students. Interns may be able to receive a stipend, or use the internship to receive academic credit or to fulfill a community service requirement. Interns must be able to work at least 32 hours per week for at least twelve weeks.

Over the course of the semester, interns will gain a wide range of substantive experience working with professional staff in one of several departments including Non Profit and Foundation Advocacy, Access to Justice, Field, Communications and Fundraising. Interns will participate in a variety of tasks including public education, advocacy, fundraising, event organizing, material development, coalition building and outreach via web 2.0 social networking websites.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Research, fundraising and/or organizing experience
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with online search tools (Google, Lexis-Nexis)
  • Familiarity with web 2.0 tools such as social media/networking desirable
  • Experience hand coding HTML and/or with web graphic design a plus
  • A passion for social justice, a demonstrated interest in civil rights and other constitutional protections
