ACA Anniversary Highlights Trump Strategy to Destroy Health Care

March 22, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 22, 2019 – Tomorrow, March 23, will mark the ninth anniversary of the day on which the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama, providing access to care for millions of formerly uninsured Americans. AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“This year’s anniversary of the ACA reminds us that since President Trump and his allies in Congress were unable to destroy the ACA through legislation, they have a new strategy: trying to destroy it through the courts. A pillar of this strategy is packing the courts with anti-ACA judges who will rule against it at any opportunity. Senators who vote to confirm these judges need to understand: a vote for an anti-ACA judge is a vote to strip desperately needed health care coverage from millions of people, who may ultimately face worsening illness, bankruptcy or even death as a result. We applaud our allies in the health care advocacy community who are working every day to increase awareness among members of Congress and the public, and we will continue to work closely with them on this issue.”
