WASHINGTON, D.C., September 17, 2018 – Today Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced that he and five Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee have filed a lawsuit to compel release of Brett Kavanaugh’s White House records not requested by the Judiciary Committee Chairman, Sen. Grassley. The five other Senators are Sens. Cory Booker, Sheldon Whitehouse, Patrick Leahy, Mazie Hirono, and Kamala Harris. AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“We applaud these Senators in their decision to take the next step to get Brett Kavanaugh’s records into the light of day, where Senators and the American people can see them. It’s incredible that Republicans forced Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing to go forward when some 90 percent of his record was — and still is — being withheld from scrutiny, and every day that goes by brings more revelations about Kavanaugh’s character and credibility. At the hearing he repeatedly misrepresented his past actions and was directly contradicted by records that came out during the hearing. We need to see the full record to judge Kavanaugh’s veracity and integrity, which are both seriously in question now for a multitude of reasons.”
