WASHINGTON, D.C., January 4, 2019 – Following the introduction of H.R. 1, the wide-ranging House ethics and reform bill, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“We applaud the new House leadership for focusing on restoring faith in our government at a time when the administration has all but demolished it. There is a lot to like in this bill, and we are especially encouraged by provisions that would protect and promote voting rights as well as a provision to extend the judicial code of ethics to Supreme Court justices. We’ve seen far too many examples of unethical conduct in our justices lately — from giving speeches at the Trump International Hotel, to headlining Federalist Society fundraisers, to skating free from scores of ethics complaints rendered unenforceable by a Supreme Court confirmation. We expect the highest level of integrity from our Supreme Court justices, and it’s time that the official code of conduct reflected that.”
