AFJ Statement in Support of March for Our Lives

March 24, 2018

Washington, D.C., March 24, 2018 – On the occasion of today’s March for Our Lives in favor of common-sense gun safety measures, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“It is incredibly heartening to see students and young people, who represent tomorrow’s leaders, taking a stand for gun safety at hundreds of rallies across the country. For those who have advocated for gun safety for decades now, this moment truly feels different. The courage of the Parkland, Florida students who gave this movement its initial momentum has now spread to students, friends, parents, teachers and activists across the country. They’re demanding that our elected officials show the same courage: that they resist intimidation by the gun lobby and finally take meaningful steps to end gun violence, especially the horror of gun violence on school campuses. That same commitment to common-sense gun legislation should be reflected in all branches of our government, including the federal courts that have the final say in whether gun safety measures are allowed to stand.”
