WASHINGTON, D.C., October 1, 2020 – New reporting Thursday found that Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, signed a 2006 letter openly opposing abortion and calling for the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Saint Joseph County Right To Life’s two-page newspaper ad stated that the signatories “oppose abortion on demand and support the right to life from fertilization to a natural death,” and called for putting “an end to the barbaric legacy of Roe v. Wade and restore laws that protect the lives of unborn children.”

The group has confirmed that it opposes in vitro fertilization and supports the criminalization of doctors who perform abortions.

Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“It just doesn’t get any clearer: Amy Coney Barrett does not support the legal right to an abortion. She can’t sign on with a group that calls Roe v. Wade ‘barbaric’ and then expect to be trusted when she claims she’ll uphold precedent. Now we know why she was so critical of stare decisis in the first place.

As the great Maya Angelou said, ‘When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.’ Amy Coney Barrett has shown us time and again where she stands on abortion, health care, and so many other issues. A vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett is a vote to end reproductive freedom as we know it, and we simply cannot allow her nomination to advance.”
