Barr Confirmation a “Great Big Valentine” for Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 14, 2019 – Following today’s Senate vote to confirm William Barr as attorney general, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“The GOP-led Senate presented President Donald Trump with a great big Valentine today in the form of an attorney general who will never hold Trump accountable for his many abuses of power. William Barr wanted this job so much that he went out of his way to compose a memo to the Justice Department spelling out the ways in which he thought the Mueller investigation could be going wrong. Now we have an attorney general who will be happy to look the other way while Trump runs roughshod over the Constitution, at the same time his Justice Department curtails civil rights for everyday Americans. What a sad day for our justice system.”
