WASHINGTON, D.C., June 5, 2018 – Following the announcement that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will cancel most of the Senate’s August state work period to push through more of President Trump’s nominees, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“It’s time to dispel this myth once and for all: despite McConnell’s claims to the contrary, there has been no ‘historic obstruction’ of President Trump’s nominees by the Senate Democrats. These claims of obstruction fall particularly flat considering that earlier today, Sen. John Cornyn took to the Senate floor to brag about how quickly the Senate has been confirming judicial nominees, citing the 21 circuit court nominees Senate Republicans have already packed onto the federal bench. This move by McConnell should be recognized for what it is – yet another destruction of Senate norms to ram through the nominations of ultraconservative ideologues and reshape the federal courts for decades.”
