First Year of Trump Is a Rocky Year for Justice

January 19, 2018

Washington, D.C., January 19, 2018 – As we approach the one-year anniversary of Donald Trump’s inauguration, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“In his first year in office, Donald Trump has taken hyperpartisanship to new levels in judicial nominations and in the Department of Justice. We’ve watched the disappearance of longstanding customs and bipartisan courtesies in the Senate in favor of rubber-stamping a parade of extreme nominees. We’ve seen the President urge the investigation and prosecution of political opponents, while the Attorney General turns the DOJ into a political weapon aimed at LGBTQ people, people of color, and immigrants. The risk of harm that could last for generations is real, but so is this: if 2017 was an alarm bell, then 2018 will be a year of action, because Americans are fed up. They’re fed up with this President’s assaults on our rights and freedoms, and they’re ready to fight the dismantling of our democracy.”
