WASHINGTON, D.C., October 16, 2018 – Republican leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing this Wednesday for Fourth Circuit nominee Allison Rushing, the youngest person President Trump has nominated for a circuit court seat thus far.  Her hearing is scheduled to go forward although the Senate is currently away on an extended recess.  AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Allison Rushing is not ready for prime time on the federal bench, and the White House and Senate Republicans know it.  Otherwise why would they schedule a confirmation hearing for her during a recess period when almost no Senators are likely to attend?  Rushing has been nominated because she is right out of the same mold as so many Trump judicial nominees: a young social conservative with little experience but very strong ties to right-wing causes. It is offensive that Republicans are trying to sneak her onto the bench with almost no scrutiny, and they should call off this hearing and stop making a mockery of the process for selecting federal judges.”
