WASHINGTON, D.C., March 16  – Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement in response to reports that Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch may have had a significant role in defending harsh policies toward detainees, while serving at the Justice Department in the George W. Bush administration:

“Every day brings more unanswered questions about Neil Gorsuch’s record.  Now there are reports that documents from his years at the Justice Department suggest he defended some of the most abusive practices to come out of the Bush-era war on terror. The American people deserve to know whether Neil Gorsuch, while at DOJ, was a cheerleader for torture and mistreatment of detainees. The fact that he refuses to answer relevant questions, and still has not provided documents related to his DOJ work as requested by Senator Dianne Feinstein, only deepens the mystery surrounding those parts of his record that he apparently wishes to hide.”
