WASHINGTON, DC, February 5, 2020 – Today the Senate voted largely along partisan lines to acquit President Trump on two articles of impeachment. The vote followed a “trial” at which Senate Republicans refused to hear from any witnesses or consider any new evidence. Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“President Trump tried to compromise the integrity of our democracy for his own personal gain in a clear abuse of power. With their vote today, Senate Republicans were party to a cover-up, assuring Trump that he can do whatever he wants so long as Republicans benefit from it. The Senate, a legislative graveyard, will resume rubber-stamping Trump’s ultraconservative and unqualified federal judges — now with even less integrity than before. The fact that Senate Republicans think such a sham trial is valid calls into question their ability to provide advice and consent and properly vet Trump’s judicial nominees.”
