WASHINGTON, D.C., October 10, 2018 – Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for Sixth Circuit nominees Chad Readler and Eric Murphy, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Today’s confirmation hearing for these two Sixth Circuit nominees was nothing less than the Trump Administration’s latest assault on health care for millions of Americans. Chad Readler today failed to explain how, in good conscience, he could have put his name on the Justice Department brief arguing to destroy the Affordable Care Act’s protections for tens of millions of people with preexisting conditions. Murphy is another opponent of the ACA. These nominees are pawns in Donald Trump’s and Mitch McConnell’s strategy to dismantle the ACA through the courts, because they were unable to do so with legislation. No Senator can vote to confirm them without threatening the health of millions of American families.”

AFJ also notes that both nominations are being pushed forward over the objections of a home-state Senator, Sherrod Brown, who has not returned a blue slip for either one.
