WASHINGTON, D.C., November 9 – Following today’s vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance the nomination of Brett Talley for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Today the GOP majority on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the judicial nomination of an unqualified person, Brett Talley, who has no trial experience, less than three years of legal experience, and who has made his reputation as a partisan political blogger and opinion writer whose pet cause is opposing reasonable gun-safety measures. The American Bar Association even weighed in to give Talley a unanimous ‘Not Qualified’ rating. It’s laughable that Senate Republicans think Talley is ready for a position on the federal bench, but it seems the bar for judicial nominees has been lowered practically to the floor. Republicans’ only concern now is rushing these nominations through before anyone in the public notices.”
