WASHINGTON, D.C., September 27, 2018 – Following the conclusion of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, in which Dr. Christine Blasey Ford offered strong and compelling testimony about being assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh and Kavanaugh offered blanket denials, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh’s combative, disrespectful and overwrought behavior at today’s hearing was totally incompatible with the temperament required of a Supreme Court justice, and stood in sharp contrast to Christine Blasey Ford’s credible and powerful testimony. Let’s remember who has suffered for years as a result of the pain of sexual assault: Christine Blasey Ford. And let’s remember that for all Kavanaugh’s insistence on his innocence, it is Dr. Blasey Ford, not Kavanaugh, who has repeatedly asked for an FBI investigation. Kavanaugh just does not have the credibility or character to be on the Supreme Court; this nomination should be withdrawn.”
