WASHINGTON, D.C., September 5, 2018 – Following afternoon and evening testimony today by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at his confirmation hearing, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh did nothing in the second half of his testimony today to allay fears that he would strip health care protections from millions of people and gut women’s reproductive rights. In fact, he sent strong signals to the far right that he would adhere to their agenda: refusing to commit to upholding health care access for preexisting conditions and refusing to affirm that Roe and other seminal cases on reproductive rights were rightly decided. Not only that, he sent a big wink and a nod to the White House when he refused to commit to recuse himself from any case involving President Trump — and refused to criticize the President’s alarming tweet blasting the Justice Department for prosecuting Republican members of Congress.”
