On 45th Anniversary of Roe, Women’s Rights at Risk

January 22, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 22 – On the 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case affirming a constitutional right to an abortion, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Forty-five years ago, Roe v. Wade affirmed the right of a woman to control her own body and make her own reproductive health choices. Yet today we find women’s rights at risk. In his first year on the job, President Trump fulfilled his campaign promise to impose an anti-Roe litmus test on any potential nominee for the Supreme Court. He has named a string of candidates to lower federal courts whose hostility to women’s rights, including reproductive rights, is painfully clear. He has issued executive orders reinstating and expanding the global gag rule and allowing states to defund Planned Parenthood. His administration has created rules allowing employers to deny their employees access to birth control on religious grounds and fought to deny underage immigrants the right to access abortion services. Trump’s attacks on our rights show no signs of stopping. We will fight every effort by this administration to turn back our rights and freedoms.”
