WASHINGTON, D.C., April 3, 2017 – Commenting on the 11-9 party-line vote today to advance Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee to the Senate floor, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“It’s no surprise that Judge Gorsuch’s nomination advanced on a pure party-line vote in the Judiciary Committee.  This nominee does not have bipartisan support and, as we know, will not reach the 60-vote threshold in the full Senate later this week. We applaud Democratic Senators who have opposed Gorsuch’s nomination for sticking to their principles despite intense pressure from the other side, including a multimillion-dollar special interest ad campaign.  The Trump administration had a chance to recognize that if Judge Gorsuch couldn’t attract bipartisan support, the sensible solution was to find a nominee who could.  They chose not to, and now they along with Senate Republicans will have to own the consequences.”
