WASHINGTON, D.C., June 6, 2018 – Following today’s confirmation hearing for David Porter, President Trump’s nominee for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“David Porter’s efforts to downplay his ultra right-wing record at his confirmation hearing today will not fool his fellow Pennsylvanians, and should not deceive senators. At his hearing today he tried to deny any meaningful connection to the Pennsylvania offshoot of the radical Judicial Crisis Network, despite appearing on the group’s materials as a founding member. His answers to questions about his judicial philosophy were similarly evasive. The truth is that Porter’s nomination is being rammed through over the objections of his home-state residents and a home-state senator, Sen. Bob Casey, who know exactly what he stands for. Porter’s confirmation would threaten equal rights for millions of people within the Third Circuit.”
