WASHINGTON, D.C., March 6, 2019 – Following today’s Senate vote to confirm Chad Readler to a seat on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Today Senate Republicans cast a vote in favor of taking us back to the days when insurance companies could deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions. They did that by granting a lifetime seat on the bench to Chad Readler, who has been the Trump Administration’s point person at the Justice Department as it tries to gut the Affordable Care Act and its protections for preexisting conditions — an effort that could strip health coverage from cancer survivors, people with diabetes, and pregnant women. Unfortunately Republicans ignored the voices of people across the country who spoke out strongly against this nominee. Americans should be fearful about Readler’s potential to continue his anti-health care activism on the federal bench and the grave harm this could do to them and their families.”
