WASHINGTON, D.C., July 31, 2019 – Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Lee Rudofsky, President Trump’s nominee for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:
“Lee Rudofsky did nothing today to reassure Arkansans that he can be a fair and impartial judge who will uphold their rights. He refused to back away from anti-reproductive rights stances he has taken. He reversed himself regarding his onetime support for marriage equality, saying he would not now support it — in keeping with the hardline, ultraconservative anti-LGBTQ record that he subsequently amassed as Solicitor General of Arkansas and that has apparently helped catapult him to a federal judicial nomination. We’re deeply concerned that if he is confirmed, Rudofsky would continue down the path of serving a partisan political agenda at the expense of critical legal rights and freedoms for the people of Arkansas.”
