SCOTUS Case Highlights Courts’ Role in Women’s Health

March 20, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 20 – As the Supreme Court takes up the case of NIFLA v. Becerra, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Today’s arguments at the Supreme Court in NIFLA v. Becerra prove once again that our federal courts play a critical role in the health and wellbeing of women. This case will decide whether women in California are given access to accurate information about healthcare options, including their right to obtain an abortion, or if fake health clinics, known as crisis pregnancy centers, will be allowed to continue to mislead women. It highlights the importance of appointing federal judges at all levels who will properly apply the law and the Constitution, as lower courts did in this case. It also sheds a strong spotlight on the role of the Supreme Court in cases that affect women’s ability to access an abortion — especially now, when we have a President who has vowed to appoint justices who will overturn the decision in Roe v. Wade.”
