Washington, D.C., January 24, 2018 – Earlier today, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), AFJ President Nan Aron, and Hart Research Associates partner Guy Molyneux took part in a media call to review the impacts on the justice system of President Trump’s first year in office, and release new polling results on public confidence in Trump judicial nominations.
A link to the audio of that call is available here.
A link to AFJ’s release on the polling by Hart Research Associates, which found that 61% of respondents believe President Trump is appointing judges who favor the wealthy and powerful over everyday Americans, is here.
“This administration is seeking to radically reshape our judiciary,” said Sen. Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, during the call. He added: “It will be, if it is permitted to continue, a judiciary that doesn’t look like our nation and doesn’t think like our nation.”
AFJ President Nan Aron noted that the Administration is being abetted by GOP leadership on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has rushed hearings and votes on nominees to prevent public scrutiny. Some nominees have been so unqualified and unprepared for the process that they have been forced out of the running, she said, adding, “Once the spotlight is shown on many of these nominees, as we saw with the three who were forced to withdraw, people will be quite upset.”
Alliance for Justice continues to track Trump judicial nominations, with comprehensive research reports on nominees to the federal circuit courts as well as nominees to key district court positions. AFJ’s new report on the Trump Administration’s effects on judicial nominations and the Department of Justice can be found here.
