WASHINGTON, D.C., October 3, 2020 – With reports that the president, many of his staff and allies, and at least three Senate Republicans have tested positive for COVID-19, many now suspect the White House announcement for Amy Coney Barrett was a superspreader event. With many more senators needing to quarantine out of precaution, there is no safe way forward for what was already an illegitimate process.

Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“If it’s too risky for the senate to be conducting business, how can it be safe to rapidly advance the nomination of a Supreme Court justice?

The answer’s easy: It’s not. And this is just another example of the farcical nature of this process.

It’s always been about taking away health care from millions, eviscerating protections for those with preexisting conditions, and overturning Roe v. Wade.

With someone new coming down with COVID seemingly every minute, there is absolutely no way for the nomination to move forward without endangering lives.

Mitch McConnell should suspend this train wreck and actually listen to the American people for once and leave this vacancy open until after inauguration.

Everyone’s health is literally on the line.”
