WASHINGTON, D.C., February 22, 2017 – In response to today’s order from the Justice Department and Department of Education, rescinding guidance for schools on Title IX anti-discrimination protections for transgender students, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Our new Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, is wasting no time in confirming that he will be a force for intolerance at the Justice Department. Today Sessions’ DOJ is sending a message of hostility to hundreds of thousands of transgender students across the country. It’s important to note that the law has not changed, and courts have ruled that Title IX continues to protect transgender students. But the gratuitous cruelty of today’s action puts us on notice: Attorney General Sessions wants to chip away at rights for many communities who have fought the hardest and endured the most, and we must be wary of his every move.”
