WASHINGTON, D.C., March 3, 2017  –  Commenting on Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement today that he will recuse himself from any investigation of the Trump campaign, after he failed to disclose meetings he held with Russia’s ambassador while he was actively taking part in that campaign, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Attorney General Sessions’ announcement that he will recuse himself from investigations of the Trump campaign is the very minimum he can do, and doesn’t go nearly far enough given the seriousness of the situation. Sessions’ decision to wait to announce recusal plans until news broke of his Russian contacts, and his hedging about why he denied those contacts during his confirmation hearing, leave too many questions unanswered.  Sessions has undermined confidence in his office and he must resign.  Nothing less will allow the Justice Department to regain the public’s trust.”
