Washington, D.C., May 18, 2017 – Following the Senate Judiciary Committee’s party-line vote to advance the nomination of Judge Amul Thapar for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“It’s no surprise that Judge Thapar’s nomination was voted out of committee on strict party lines. And we applaud Democratic senators on the committee who cast a principled vote against this nominee, whose record shows he would endanger people’s rights and access to justice. In addition, the very last thing we should give this President at this time is an opportunity to stock the federal courts. Neither Judge Thapar’s nomination, nor any judicial nomination put forward by President Trump, should move ahead while the President continues to act as if he is above the law and scandal threatens to swamp his administration.”
