WASHINGTON, D.C., July 31, 2019 – Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Justin Walker, a nominee to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky who just received a majority “Not Qualified” rating from the American Bar Association, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:
“Justin Walker’s Not Qualified rating from the ABA makes it clear once again that the Trump Administration cares far more about partisan political credentials in its judges than it does about their legal careers. Under questioning today, Walker admitted how inexperienced he is. He has taken one deposition in his entire career. He has never served as the sole or lead attorney trying a case to verdict or judgment. What he has done is rack up scores of media appearances defending Brett Kavanaugh during Kavanaugh’s disgraceful Supreme Court confirmation process. This is good enough for the Trump Administration. But it is very bad news for the people of Kentucky, whose rights and freedoms could depend on Walker’s ability to fulfill the role of an impartial and independent judge.”
