WASHINGTON, D.C., May 29, 2019 – Following reported remarks by Senate Majority Mitch McConnell, in which he stated that if there were a Supreme Court vacancy in the final year of President Trump’s term the Senate would act to fill it, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Mitch McConnell’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. We always knew his platitudes about letting the voters decide who should fill the late Justice Scalia’s seat were as empty and phony as they come. But now he’s proven it. Should there be a Supreme Court vacancy, senators should be on notice that the American people will remember what Republicans said last time about filling a seat. Senators should be aware that if they act hypocritically by filling one in the waning days of the Trump presidency, the people will not forget.”
