WASHINGTON, D.C., MARCH 25: Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement today in response to the Supreme Court decision in Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama and Alabama Democratic Conference v. Alabama:
We are pleased that the Supreme Court struck down a lower court decision upholding Alabama’s racial gerrymander and sent these cases back with instructions to apply the correct legal standards.
Fifty years ago today, Martin Luther King, Jr. declared: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Now, the courts must preserve Dr. King’s legacy by preventing the votes of African-Americans in Alabama and across the country from being diluted.
