WASHINGTON, DC, February 4, 2020 – During President Trump’s State of the Union address, he bragged about the number of judges that he has appointed as president. While Trump lauded the effect these judges will have on the judicial system, their records tell a very different story. Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“The State of
the Union is when the president is supposed to update Congress on the health of
our democracy. Trump may see his many judicial appointments as a proud legacy,
but it is already proving to be one of the biggest black marks on his
administration. Trump has appointed an embarrassing number of unqualified
jurists, including many clearly selected for their ultraconservative political
advocacy. These judges have already demonstrated their willingness to dismantle
our civil rights and undermine the rule of law. We will be saddled with the
harmful consequences of these ideological judges and their extremist decisions
for generations to come — very much to the detriment of the state of our
union.”
