WASHINGTON, DC, March 30, 2020 – In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, President Trump announced today that he is nominating Cory Wilson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Wilson has an egregiously ideological record — including fierce opposition to access to quality health care.

Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“As the nation responds to a massive health crisis, the president is working with Mitch McConnell to elevate an anti-health care judge at the same time he’s asking the courts to declare the entire Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. Cory Wilson called the ACA ‘illegitimate’ and ‘perverse’ and encouraged the Supreme Court to overturn it in its entirety. The Fifth Circuit has been conservatives’ primary venue forchallenging this law, which has provided health care coverage to millions of Americans. That the president would choose this moment to try to further solidify opposition to health care on this important appeals court demonstrates how little heactually prioritizes the safety and health of Americans.”
